stranger

i breathe in a whiff of air
feeling my entire body crumble
all these miserable thoughts drain into my head;
i haven't even gotten far yet
and i've already messed up
i'm never ever going to free

i open my eyes
to see a small crowd gathering
around me in a circle
there is an arm around my waist
clinging onto me tightly

i'm alive
i'm not hurt either

and then i notice something
that familiar smell or cologne clouds my senses
those same bright eyes
staring right back into my shocked ones
it's the boy i kissed on the train

no shit

the boy raises his head
he still has his mask covering
the bottom half of his face
as he quickly scrambles up to his knees

he leans down and gently raises
my head in his arm
its then that i realise i'm on a pavement
my head probably hit the edge of the sidewalk
because it's starting to throb painfully

i am hurt
and i could've died

"can you hear me?" he asks
it's the first time i've heard his voice
and god, he sounds like an angel

i try opening my mouth
but the words are stuck in my throat
instead i respond with a very awkward nod

i hear him sigh in relief
the crowd begins to disperse
he stands up
and helps me to my feet

i stumble forwards
losing my balance
but he catches me in his arms

"woah, careful"
he says, helping me gain my balance
"you could've landed yourself in an accident"

"th-thanks" i stutter out embarassingly
how could it be him out of all people?

what a smash on my pride

something pops back into my mind like a reminder

"i'm sorry, i-i have to go"
i release my grip on his shoulder
and drag myself back towards the convenience store

my leg is throbbing
i must've hurt it back during the fall
i reach the table to find that it is cleared
and there is no ticket
no goddamn ticket

shit, shit, shit

"hey"
it's that familiar voice again
but i'm in too much of a haste to bother

"i'm late for my train if you don't mind"
i didn't mean to sound so rude
but at this rate, i'm going to get caught
and i can't risk that
not now, not when i've already made it this far

the boy steps back
giving me a path to walk
but he says something that makes me stop in my tracks
"the train left five minutes ago"

"what?"

he looks back in the direction of the station
long fringes falling over his face
"you won't be able to catch that train anymore
it's gone"
